Hollow Wax Budgie (on a painted stand)

Traditionally wax figures such as this one are used to plead to the deities in Portuguese sanctuaries for taking away illness and to induce the fast recovery of your loved ones, your pets or even your worldly possessions.

These budgies, usually colourful jolly birds, landed on Pedro’s paint-stirring sticks, and were dipped in left over paints used to carry out his work on various historic houses. The green, a verdigris glaze, was used on the Star Chamber at Strawberry Hill House.
